During the Civil War Richart T. Early served in the Virginia State Guard (enlisted 1861).14  On Aug 16 1865 Richard Early petitioned for a pardon under the Amnesty Proclamation of May 29 1865.  His pardon was granted Aug 24/25 1865.15,16
