He married Edna M. Cooper6,7 [Edna A. Cooper8], Oct 19 19166,7, Morgan County, Indiana6,7.  Edna was born Nov 28 1893, Indiana.1,2,6,8  

On Jun 5 1917 Joseph Harrison Hinshaw, age 29, registered for the World War I draft in Morgan County, Indiana.  He declared he was born December 30, 1887 in Liberty, North Carolina, and was then residing in Monrovia, Indiana, a self-employed farmer with a dependent wife.  No prior military experience.  He claimed an exemption due to "Member of Friends Church".  He was recorded as medium height, stout, grey eyes, dark brown hair, and "neuritis in left leg caused by typhoid fever".5  

Joseph and family were shown in the 1920 census (Feb 11 1920), Monroe Township, Morgan County, Indiana, as follows:1

Hinshaw, Edna M., wife; age 27, born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana.
Hinshaw, Charlotte E., daughter; age 2 months, born in Indiana; father born in North Carolina; mother born in Indiana.
Cooper, Leota, sister-in-law, age 19, born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana; single.

Joseph and family were shown in the 1930 census (Apr 26 1930), Monroe Township, Morgan County, Indiana:2

Hinshaw, Joseph, head-of-household; age 41, born in Indiana; parents born in North Carolina; first married at age 26; owned home; no radio in home; occupation: farmer, farm; not a veteran.
Hinshaw, Edna A., wife; age 36, born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana; first married at age 21.
Hinshaw, Charlott, daughter; age 10, born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana; attended school.
Living next door in 1930 was the family of brother Ira.13  

In 1932, the West Union Friends Meeting celebrated its 100-year anniversary.  As part of a fund raiser, the ladies of West Union made a large quilt upon which was embroidered the names of members who purchased spots on the quilt for 10 cents per name (see: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inmchaga/namequi2.html ).  The West Union "Name Quilt" contains the names of Joseph Hinshaw, Edna Hinshaw, daughter Charlotte Hinshaw, brother Ira Hinshaw and his wife Helen Hinshaw, and Philip Hinshaw.14  

In 1942 Joseph Harrison Hinshaw, age 54, registered for the World War II draft in Morgan County, Indiana.  He declared he was born 12/30/1887 in Chatham, North Carolina, and was then residing in Monrovia, Indiana, a self-employed farmer.  He declared his relative/contact was "Mrs. Joseph Hinshaw (Edna A)".  He was recorded as 5'10" tall, 210 lbs., blue eyes, gray hair, light complexion.11  

Edna died May 24 1954, Monrovia, Morgan County, Indiana; age 60.8,15  

Edna's obituary was published in "The American Friend" on July 1, 1954 (page 214).15  

Joseph Harrison Hinshaw died Sep 7 1954, Monrovia, Morgan County, Indiana; age 67.8,15  

Joseph's obituary was published in "The American Friend" on November 7, 1954 (page 315).15
