He married Jane May, Apr 28 1633, Mid Lavant, Sussex, England.1,3,4 "Jane, daughter of Rich. May, of Lavane, in Co. of Sussex, Esq."3
Joseph Henshaw, D.D., was rector of East Lavant, County Sussex, and canon of Chichester;1,2 Vicar of St. Bartholomew-the-Less in the City of London (1631-6),1,2 Dean and precentor of Chichester, 1660-1663;2 Bishop of Peterborough, 1663-1679.2 Chaplain to George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham.2
This distinguished prelate was the author of "Hora Succisivae" or "Spare Hours of Meditation".1
Joseph wrote the following poem:5
Man's life is like unto a summer's day
Some break their fast and so away
Others stay dinner then depart full fed
The longest age but sups and goes to bed
O reader then behold and see
As we are now so you must be.
Joseph Henshaw died Mar 9 1679, buried East Lavant, Sussex, England.1,2 Will dated Sep 8 1675, proved Mar 11 1679 (Prerogative Court of Canterbury).1,2 In his will, Joseph named his nephews Isaac and Benjamin.1
