BOONVILLE -- Gurnie Howell Hinshaw Sept. 25, 1928 ~ Dec. 25, 2011 Mr. Gurnie Howell Hinshaw, 83, of Golf Course Road, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Yadkin Nursing Center. He was born September 25, 1928 in Yadkin County to the late Gurnie Marvin and Irma Hobson Hinshaw. Mr. Hinshaw was retired from Hanes/ Sara Lee Hosiery with 38 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War from 1952-1954. Mr. Hinshaw was a faithful member of Richmond Hill Baptist Church in Boonville, NC. He served the church as Sunday School Superintendent, Pulpit Committee, Assistant Choir Director and Choir Member, Baptismal Committee Chairman, and Deacon for over 50 years. He loved his church, and was there every time the doors were open if possible. He never had an unkind word about any of his pastors. He loved them all, and was a favorite uncle to all his nieces, nephews, and church children. Surviving are his beloved wife, Jeanette Collins Hinshaw, of the home; Brothers, Gray (Hazel) Hinshaw, Gatlinburg, TN, Glyce (Peggy) Hinshaw, Paul (Letty) Hinshaw, and Franklin (Louise) Hinshaw, all of Boonville, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Richmond Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Will Hamric and Rev. Grover Holder. He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family requests that memorials may be made to Richmond Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, Richmond Hill Church Road, Boonville, NC 27011. The family would like to express their gratitude to Yadkin Nursing Center Staff for their loving care of Gurnie. Online condolences may be made to www.gentryfuneral service.com.
