John Hancher1,3,6,7 [John Henshaw2].
Born Jul 14 1796, Frederick County, Virginia.1,6
John served in the War of 1812.5
John inherited a 1/10th interest in 110 acres of land from his father's estate.8 In an Indenture (Frederick County, Virginia) of Nov 10 1824 between John Hancher and "Sarah his wife", they sold their 1/10th undivided interest in the estate.9
Note that the above Indenture seems to indicate John had married a Sarah sometime prior to 1824.9
He married Nancy Ann O'Rourke1 [Ann O'Rourke2, Nancy Ann O'Rorke3,5], 18271. Nancy was born Dec 31 1807, Virginia.1,5,10
Following their marriage, John and Nancy settled in Harrison County, Ohio. During 1850 they moved to Campbell County, Kentucky.1
John and family were shown in the 1850 census, Campbell County, Kentucky, as follows:2
John Henshaw, age 44 [sic], born in Virginia; farmer.
Ann Henshaw, age 41 [sic], born in Virginia.
David Orrick, age 42, farmer.
Note that the 1850 census shows several children born in Kentucky, which is incorrect - these children were all born in Ohio1,4 (the family did not arrive in Kentucky until 1850).1
In 1851 the family moved to Brown County, Indiana.1
John Hancher died Aug 17 1853, Brown County, Indiana.1,5
Following John's death, the family moved in 1859 to Bureau County, Illinois.1
Widow Nancy and family were shown in the 1860 census (Jul 26 1860), Ohio Township, Bureau County, Illinois:4
Nancy Hancher, age 52, born in Virginia; $300 personal property.
James Hancher, age 18, born in Ohio; farm laborer; attended school.
Harrison Hubbard, age 30, born in Pennsylvania; R.R. Section Master.
Also shown living nearby in 1860 were her daughter Julia,11 and sons Barney11 and Thomas.12
In 1864, Nancy and three of her children (Abel, Thomas and Isabelle) moved near Plover, Powhatan Township, Pocahontas County, Iowa1 (another son, Barney, had preceeded them to Iowa).1
Nancy died Oct 2 1882, Pocahontas County, Iowa; buried Powhatan Township Cemetery, Plover, Pocahontas County, Iowa.1,10
