He married Bessie Elizabeth White1,13,14,15,16 [Elizabeth White17], Dec 16 19091,13,14,15,16, Jay County, Indiana1,13,14,15,16.  Bessie, daughter of Harvey H. White, was born about 1893, Indiana.2,10,17  (1876).7,8  

Alva and Bessie were shown in the 1910 census (Apr 25-26 1910), Jay County, Indiana:10

On Sep 12 1918 Alva Hinshaw, age 34, registered for the World War I draft in Decatur, Adams County, Indiana.  He declared he was born June 30 1884, and was then residing in Geneva, Adams County, Indiana where he was a self-employed farmer.  He declared his nearest relative was Mrs. Alva Hinshaw of Geneva.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, grey eyes, grey hair.11

Bessie died 1922, buried Twin Hills IOOF Cemetery, Pennville, Penn Township, Jay County, Indiana.7,8  

In 1926 Alva was living in Berne, Adams County, Indiana.18  

He then married Nancy J. Riffle [Nancy J. Ault19].  Nancy, daughter of Simon + Lilley Riffle, was born Aug - 1890, Indiana.3,20  Nancy had been previously married Nov 16 1911 to Harvey C. Ault,3,15,21 and had a son, Ivan Ault.22

On Apr 27 1942 Alva Hinshaw, age 57, registered for the World War II draft in Portland, Jay County, Indiana.  He declared he was born June 30 1884 in Randolph County, Indiana, and was then residing in Pennville, Jay County, Indiana where he was self-employed.  He declared his relative/contact was Nancy J. Hinshaw of Pennville.  He was recorded as 5'10" tall, 210 lbs., gray eyes, gray hair, ruddy complexion, and a "scar on outside right forearm".12  

Alva R. Hinshaw died 1958, buried Twin Hills IOOF Cemetery, Pennville, Penn Township, Jay County, Indiana.7,8
