Database Search
This form allows you to perform a text
search through the entire HFA database.
Search instructions:
-
Enter a word or a phrase in the input box above.
-
If multiple words are entered then they are treated as a single phrase
and match only exact occurances of that phrase in the database.
-
Be as specific as possible with your search word(s).
If you specify something very general, such as
"North Carolina", you are likely to get many more matches than you really want.
-
To search for references to a particular geographic location, try several
searches using format variatiations, e.g.
try "city", also "city, state", or "city, county, state".
Remember that many county names occur in more than one state so be specific,
e.g. "Randolph County, Indiana" instead of just "Randolph County".
-
To search for references to a particular Quaker meeting, enter
the name of the meeting.
It is generally better to omit "MM", e.g. "Mississinewa" rather than
"Mississinewa MM".
-
To find a person by name, you might want to scan the Name List instead - see the
Home Page.
Be aware that we have a large database - searches may take a few minutes!
