Vendors

One of the first things you discover in planning (your first) wedding is that since you've never done this before, you are starting with practically no experience. The best you can do is ask recently married couples for advice, recommendations, and referrals. Perhaps if you have planned corporate events or lots of large parties you have a better point to start from, but if you're like us, you probably start by looking for help. And if you're a lot like us, you start looking for help online and in bookstores. We received many of our referrals from our married friends and also the egroups Bay Area Wedding mailing list. The most helpful book we bought was The Knot's Complete Guide to Weddings in the Real World.

Our current vendor list is as follows (if we don't recommend a vendor, I'll remove them instead of saying something bad, so consider these recommended, but feel free to email for our experience).

Photographer: Erica Z. Connors
We picked Erica because she uses both Hasselblad (large format) and 35mm cameras. We had hoped to find someone who could do equal justice to our portraits and our candids. Erica's albums really felt like a complete story, not just a random bunch of photos. She came highly recommended by several people on the Bay Area wedding email list.

DJ: Sound Sensation (John Martin)
Lisa and Fred used John at their wedding, which we attended last August (Lilly played violin for their ceremony). He seemed to fit exactly what we needed (some DJs are just too outgoing for our taste), so we didn't bother to shop around, and just booked him immediately.

Cake: Prolific Oven
Lilly and Landon were both introduced to the Prolific Oven at previous jobs. When Lilly was at Brio they ordered a Prolific Oven cake for most birthday celebrations. Landon and his co-workers often went to their coffeehouse for treats. Prolific Oven has truly yummy cakes. No dry white cake with tough icing for us! It's truly a waste to make a beautiful cake creation and not enjoy eating it! We hope ours will be a pleasant treat for our guests.

Florist: Malak at Rosies' & Posies in Campbell
"Nothing fussy" was Lilly's primary criteria for a florist. Malak was praised highly in the book "By Recommendation Only" and exhibited the efficiency and professionalism that Lilly desired to get the flowers decided on with minimum hassle. Plus she's minutes away from the ceremony location.
