A person using the e-mail address htsweety@Yahoo.Com and going by the name "Heather Thompson" first appeared in the public Internet in early 1999, claiming to be now residing in Sunnyvale after growing up in Iowa. I exchanged e-mail with her for a while. She revealed some rather intimate "facts" about herself, but said she was too shy to meet me in person because she wouldn't know how to carry on her side of a conversation but would feel pressured to converse thus be embarrassed by her lack of conversational skills. Neither of us had online photos at the time, but we were each curious about how the other looked, so I suggested we "half meet" by arranging to walk by each other at a local supermarket without stopping to talk. She took such great offense at the suggestion that she immediately cut off communication with me.

A year and a half later, at the end of 2000, I suddenly got e-mail from somebody going by the name "John Piper" who claimed to have dated her previously but then went back to visit her, and while she was out of the room he browsed on her computer and found that she had a "shrine" for me there. He presumed that she and I had previously dated and that she still had strong romantic feelings for me, and he sent me two photos of her (1 2) that he had taken while they were dating, asking me if this was the same "Heather" that I had dated. Within a couple weeks I found posted on a Yahoo "club" two higher-resolution photos of the same woman taken on the same beach within minutes of the first two, in fact one of them identical to the first of the two e-mailed photos except for the higher resolution, but each under the name "Lacey" instead of "Heather". I sent 3 e-mail to htsweety@Yahoo.Com asking if that was her, before she finally confirmed both the photos and the shrine. We exchanged e-mail for most of the rest of 2001, then suddenly she cut me off again, but this time without any explanation why. More than a year later, in early 2003, she finally e-mailed me again, claiming that she was homeless and that's why she didn't e-mail me. Then in late 2003 she cut me off again, this time blaming me for some harassing messages that other guys had posted about her, as if somehow it was my fault. In that e-mail she sounded like she was suicidal. I didn't hear from her for 1.5 years after that, during which time her Yahoo Mail address ceased to exist because she hadn't checked her e-mail for over 4 months, as if she really were dead. But then in early 2005 I got one last e-mail from her, again a suicide message, and again after four months her Yahoo! Mail account was discontinued, but this time she never came back online at all AFAIK. Either she really did kill herself, or she was a fake to begin with (and "John Piper" was her in different guise) and she just got tired of jerking me around.
