This is Robert Maas. All these questions apply to my Cyclops camera/cellphone using Virgin Mobile, SW version QA1.1.00, PRL version 10029, Openwave 6.2.3.9.g.1.107, 408-420-1841. Some questions might apply to other models of cellphone using the same service, while others would be specific only to the Cyclops, but this is the only cellphone I have so I'm not trying to guess which questions are more general than others. Please reply to these questions by e-mail, at the secret Yahoo! Mail address that is associated with my Virgin Mobile account. I'll check that e-mail account in a day or two, and then update this Web page after I see your answers.
Chronological log of activity here:How to get on the InterNet and type in a URL directly? XL -> Surf the Web -> after "Match.com Mobile" there's a blank field with a magnifying glass next to it. Is that where I'm supposed to type the URL?
When typing a URL, how to type a slash, such as in "tinyurl.com/uh3t"? I can type letters and period, but when I get to where I need the slash "/" character I can't figure out how to type it.
When I buy a "day pass", which gives me 24 hours InterNet access, is that a calendar day where it's all gone after one day whether I use it all or just use part of it, like a "day pass" on public transit (bus and light rail), or can the 24 total hours be broken into small pieces spread over weeks or months, just the same as cellphone voice minutes can be spread over 90 days?
If a "day pass" can be broken into pieces over weeks/months, then how to find out how much time is left on it, and also how much data is left on it, before I need to buy another "day pass", so that I won't exceed my time by a tiny amount and consequently be forced to buy a whole new day pass just to finish the last five minutes of a long session?
During the first several hours I was trying out my new cellphone, I tried to avoid doing anything that cost money, and indeed my account still showed $2.50 on it for a while. But then suddenly it showed only $2.46, and later it showed only $2.24, even though I still hadn't made any phone calls nor done anything else that was supposed to cost money. How to see a detailed/itemized listing of charges to my account?
Note that after that point, I made a one-minute
phone call, but after the 10-second-before-minute beep
I got off the phone as fast as I could, but ran one
second over the minute, and got charged for a whole
second minute just for that one second, so now only
$1.88 is left on my account.
Update: I'm on
the Web site just now, logging into my account via the
Web with PIN for the first time, and it says
Balance: $1.86, two cents less than what my
cellphone said a few minutes ago. So I went back to my
cellphone to compare, and now the cellphone says
there's only $1.84 on my account. While I was typing,
the screen went blank, so I refreshed the screen by
closing and re-opening the cellphone lid, and now the
cellphone says only $1.82 on my account. What's going on??
Why does it keep dropping by two cents when I'm not making
calls or otherwise charging any services??
Update: I noticed just now that the Web site has my name
spelled wrong. It's supposed to be MAAS but the Web site has MASS.
Meanwhile, the detailed listing of charges has these unexplained
charges:
03/09/2008 11:45 PM (408) 420-1841 00:01 VOICE -$0.18 03/09/2008 11:22 PM 00:00 XTRAS -$0.02 03/09/2008 10:26 PM 00:00 XTRAS -$0.02 (page break) 03/09/2008 10:25 PM 00:00 XTRAS -$0.02 03/09/2008 10:24 PM 00:00 XTRAS -$0.02What are the XTRAS charges? And why am I being charged for calling myself?? It makes no sense.
Still on my account on your Web site: I clicked on "My Pix", but it says I haven't uploaded any pictures. I started to upload a picture, but it looks more like sending picture message, which costs 25 cents each, so I aborted without cicking "Send" button. Am I correct that uploading would be charged as a picture message?
Update (info of Mar.10 around 1 PM, uploaded after 11:30 PM):
12:55 I logged into my Yahoo! Mail account to see if there was any new e-mail since I last checked: First there was a greeting from Virgin Mobile telling me how to do something the operator on the phone already had me do last night (enter my phone number and network number). It also has a link to a tutorial, which I'm going to right now at 12:59 ... As expected, this page advertised as having animated demos doesn't work at all here. Also, this URL gives 404 page not found error (and no default exists for site id=565).
Also:
URL: http://web.virginmobileusa.com/help/home
Link that you currently have selected
Linkname: Mobile Web and Search
URL: http://web.virginmobileusa.com/help/stuff/mobile-web-search
Doesn't give me any info, just a repeat of the same menu that takes me
another level deep at the same menu.
The second message you sent to my Yahoo! Mail account says to e-mail to ourteam@virginmobileusa.com if I have any questions, so that's what I'll be doing shortly after 13:09.
I found a third message from VirginMobile in the spam folder. I forwarded it to customer care at Yahoo so that they can fix their spam filter, but then I actually read the text of the message and discovered that it contains my PIN for my cellphone account, so Yahoo customer care now knows my PIN now. I then sent e-mail to you warning you of that problem and asking what we should do about it. As of 11:30 PM when I checked my e-mail, no reply from you has arrived.
Note also the message that was considered spam contains this paragraph:
.
Your Account PIN is really important. You need it to Top-Up, download
games and ringtones, check your account history online, and do almost
anything else with your Virgin Mobile account. So you might want to
print out this email and keep it somewhere safe, so you wonbt forget
your Account PIN in the future.
.
Note the typographic error "wonbt" in the last full line.
You might want to fix that typo in your new-account-PIN formletter.
New question 2008.May.23: On this date, with only $1.80 remaining from the $2.50 credit from when I purchased my cellphone on Mar.09, I purchased my first top-up card and applied it to my account, two weeks before the deadline of Jun.09. The top-up system gave me back (on my cellphone) a response that confirmed I now have $21.80 on my account, but then it said "your month ends 06/09/08", which is the same as when my 90 days from purchase ended, the deadline for getting that $20 top-up. I don't understand. What month ends on that date now, after I already did the top-up? I checked on your Web site, and confirmed that my new deadline for getting another top-up is Aug.21, 90 days after I got this first top-up. So what is the significance now of the Jun.09 date??
I called the tollfree customer support line to ask about this, and the customer support person was unable to answer my question, and unable to contact IT to find out if this is a known bug in the top-up system. She said I needed to e-mail you to ask, so I'm doing that the first chance I get, probably on Monday (May.26).
