My accomplishments during 2002:
- 2002.Feb-(late that year) (more spam-fighting software)
- 2002.Oct -- Wrote code to check whether CGI user is a local user, and if so offer additional services.
- 2002.Oct-Nov: Added new features (automatic spaces between words, punctuation, first letters of words, last letters of words) to SegMat demo to allow option of making it easier to guess the answer.
- 2002.Nov -- Installed new Web (CGI) services:
- Username and password to gain access to restricted serviices
- Master account for me which lets me (from any Web browser anywhere) set up new accounts and configure their access to individual services
- E-mail using my spam-protected address on YahooGroups
- Some confidential Web-based services
- Quick demo of template for teaching Spanish to English-speaking people, concentrating on most common Spanish words in context.
- 2002.Nov.16-19: Ported the essential part of my "all but one" flashcard-drill algorithm to Unix.
- 2002.Nov.21: Started to teach somebody how to program computers toward setting up their own WebServer applications. Topics covered: Standard pairs, six basic operations (get left, get right, change left, change right, build new object, test if some handle is for this kind of object), printing standard-pair structures out to dotted-pair notation, reading dotted-pair notation back in to build structures, and the convention of right-linked pairs to represent arbitrary-length lists.
- 2002.Nov.20-22: Interfaced my "all but one" flashcard-drill algorithm to the Web, designed to allow as many separate accounts as needed, currently with one set of cards manually set up for myself to debug and in-person demonstrate the program. (Basically working as of early morning Nov.22, demonstrated it to Elizabeth at Focus for Work that next afternoon Nov.22.)
During the upcoming week I plan to continue to clean it up and intall the rest of the useful features, starting with the capability of each authorized user to set up their own personalized deck of cards selected from the master decks I provide, so that Elizabeth and other people with individual accounts will be able to try it on their own.
- 2002.Nov.22: Passed my "mock interview" at Focus for Work.
Next week I hope to contact various agencies to find out if any of them coach dyslexic adults toward reading and spelling and might accept my help via a volunteer job or internship including my flashcard-drill Web service.
- 2002.Nov-Dec: Finished all the above-proposed features for flashcard-drill program on the Web.
