Stick with me here. . . Last week I visited some atypical vacation locations, including Missouri. Stopped by the famous St. Louis Arch, which is part of the the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial (got the stamp). This monument celebrates aspects of the Westward expansion of the US territories, which started with Thomas Jefferson sending Lewis and Clark off to find a route to the Pacific (and to check out the newly acquired land from France) in 1803. One can only assume Lewis and Clark explored a lot of land while getting rained on, and thus it logically follows that we should re-enact their historic trip by hiking in rain this Saturday. So get off your Sacagawea and come celebrate the near-bicentennial anniversary of the Lousiana Purchase on a pioneering hike that goes Westward (on the way back). Oddly enough, last time we were here (50 hikes ago), it was also raining and we had a new person show up *because* of it. --- Hike #292: St. Joseph's Hill OSP Date: Saturday, November 9, 2002 Meet: 10:00 @ Intel / 11:00 @ trailhead Weather: Rainy, upper 50's Distance: 3-4.5 miles (depending on the weather) Difficulty: 1 out of 5 Bring: Rain gear, change of clothes, snacks, and water (or not!)
