Well, I got bored and decided to see what of my stuff various search engines
had gotten into their databases. I don't actively put my pages into these
search engines, since it seems when I do, they take *longer* to update,
possibly because they think *I* am going to do all their work for them.
Yeah right...it's amazing what a little word of e-mouth can do. (Ugh... did
I really just coin that one? Ick.)
Anyway, my first step was to try Altavista. They seem to be just NUTZ with
it all, and sure enough, they got a few of my pages. But what really
shocked me was that I was featured in a link of Quake (as in the game)
related pages. This is a joke...I *HATE* that kind of game. Although Quake
is a bit more palatable than other Doom-style stuff, it's not by much
(again, my opinion only, based on personal preferences...I'll be the first
to agree that they are technically awesome games), so I decided to check it
out.
Sure enough, my enormous bookmarks page gets a full page of spew in their
list, consisting of badly reformatted tablecrap. I tried to figure out what
*possibly* could have my bookmarks page nominated for this dubious honor.
Grep to the rescue....and voila! My U.S.G.S Earthquake Information links
must have been triggered in a substring search.
(chuckle) Stupid bots.
