Dear friends, just to let you know we are pretty much now closed until February 2000. Please do not send stuff to our PO Box until we return, thanks. If you are stuck for places to purchase 555 product in our absence may we suggest Cargo [UK], Darla [USA], Meridiens [France], Mind the Gap [Germany], Norman Records [UK], PAL Mailorder [USA], Nameskio [Switzerland], Trolley Bus [Japan], TRC [USA], The Melody Bar [Scotland] or Claire De Leon! [USA]. They may even have a few items we have sold out of.
Our next bunch of releases around March/April 2000 should include some or all of the following:
The EMPRESS 7" on Geographic Records is now a 9 track 12" and CD. It will be released in January or February of next year through Domino Records, so it should be easy to get hold of. STEWARD has a couple of new releases forthcoming: A five track 7" EP on the newly founded City Bleach label, as well as a CD of remixes on Blackbean and Placenta, both due early next year. There will also be a very limited (250 copies) mailorder split single with Hood available only from Norman Records mailorder of Leeds. Release date unknown, but probably also early next year. All details will be on the Steward web in the next few weeks.
There will be a few Steward performances along the way:
Wishing you a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year!
I have added cover scans and track listings for "You Gotta Get More Alive" and "Quiet Is The New Loud" to the catalogue. HUON info to come soon.
Also, I thought I would mention to check out the latest Little Darla CD (v.13). It has exclusive songs from STEWARD and THE REMOTE VIEWER.
AVAILABLE NOW - HUON "Hung Up Over Night" CD (555CD15)
14 great tracks from the premier Australian supergroup. This is in fact the 3rd Huon full length, yet preceeds their 2nd CD (available soon on Animal World records of Florida). The CD also contains CD-ROM material. See the millennium in in style with Huon and 555. THIS IS OUR LAST RELEASE UNTIL MARCH 2000.
The recent YOU GOTTA GET MORE ALIVE CD has infact sold out in record time (1000 in 4 weeks!). We have decided to re-press some more such has been the demand, so you, dear listener, can order with confidence this budget priced tasty treat.
A public apology to Sascha Schrierloh:
We, the bumbling fools at 555 would like to apologise
for a wrong title contained on the recent "You Gotta
Get More Alive" compilation CD. The track in question
is the 3rd track on the CD. The artist is CLOHYDRIS
DIEPHOLZ (not Dicphole) and the song title is
"Verbrecherjagd pt.1 - Trachtendieb/ Wer Hat Die
Weinkonign Bestohlen".
Sascha Schrierloh/Clohydris Diepholz also records and
releases records as Jean Bach. His records are
fantastic and well worth tracking down. Please check
his website for details.
Just out! The new compilation CD and THE REMOTE VIEWER "Quiet Is The New Loud" 12" Mini-LP are both out and selling really quickly.
Such has been the recent demand that we have also repressed the HALKYN 7", the LONG WEEKEND 7" as well as the KID 606 10".
The new HUON CD "Hung Up Over Night" (555CD15) will be available as of the last week of September 1999. It is an enhanced CD and in addition to the excellent music contained within it also features text, graphics and cartoons from the band that you can watch in the comfort of your own home on your computer.
This will be the last release of 555 recordings UNTIL MARCH 2000. If you are interested in ordering anything PLEASE DO SO BEFORE THE END OF OCTOBER 1999. Orders recieved between November 1999 and March 2000 will not be processed until we return!!!
The mailorder only FAMOUS BOYFRIEND CD will be WITHDRAWN as of the end of October 1999.
New releases for March 2000:
CRABSTICK LP, KID 606 10", KID 606/REMOTE VIEWER split 7", something
from STEWARD and also the REMIX 12" featuring: 3RD EYE FOUNDATION,
HOOD, EMPRESS, TIN FOIL STAR, THE REMOTE VIEWER and STEWARD.
Other news: EMPRESS have just recorded a new 7"/CD for the new Geographic label (through Domino) available October 1999.
After months of anticpation Chris has decided the DOWNPOUR record will now not come out. This is truly a great shame as personally we think they are the best songs Chris has ever written. 555 would like to apologise to those who have written to us about the DOWNPOUR release and/or sent money. This decision for it not to come out is the artist's, and as such 555 must respect Chris' decision. We have, of course, thought about bootlegging him, as we have the master tapes just sitting here gathering dust, but as Chris lives in the next street this isn't maybe such a clever idea if we all want to stay friends...Nevermind.
We have some new things in the pipeline!
Compilation news:
Our next release is a compilation LP/CD, tentatively titled "You Gotta
Get More Alive" (555LP12). The following bands are confirmed for the
line up:
KID 606, HOOD, JEAN BACH, KYOKO, THE FAMOUS BOYFRIEND, MEERSCHAUM, STEWARD, PANEL OF JUDGES, THE REMOTE VIEWER, HUON, FIGURINE, EMPRESS, FINGERNAIL, ACCELERA DECK, HALKYN, LONG WEEKEND and TRANSBEAUCE.
We're still awaiting a few tapes, etc., and there may be a few last minute surprise appearances. The vinyl record will be available as of September 1999. The CD will be available in the USA on 555 through Nu Gruv Alliance, hopefully around the same time.
There will be a new Remote Viewer 12" EP. 4 or 5 tracks, also released in September.
AND, an LP by either CRABSTICK or HUON. We can't afford to do both right now, but hopefully one of the two will make an appearance around the same time...We'll see. They are both great records of course, and will both be released eventually when we can afford to.
Not sure what's happening with the planned remix EP. Still waiting on the 3rd Eye Foundation remix of the Remote Viewer. Matt Elliot is currently putting the finishing touches to his forthcoming new Domino LP, so he's been pretty busy. We're assured the Remote Viewer are top of his list as soon as he has some free time.
555 related news:
STEWARD has just released a new 7" on Instatone Brand. "You Will Never Be That Young Again" 4 song EP. We haven't seen copies yet, but think its available through Darla, etc....
THE REMOTE VIEWER CD version of the debut LP is now ready for release in the USA. We think the official release date is August 3rd. 555 should have copies in the next few days...
Any questions, please feel free to contact us.
The HALKYN 7" has sold out! Not sure how, but there you go.
Forthcoming releases will include:
The 555 comp. No title as yet, but some great stuff on it. Confirmed
bands so far include:
HUON, STEWARD, ACCELERA DECK, THE REMOTE VIEWER, LONG WEEKEND, FINGERNAIL, PANEL OF JUDGES, SISTERHOOD OF CONVOLUTED THINKERS, FIGURINE, MEERSHAUM, HALKYN, JEAN BACH, KID 606, EMPRESS, TRANSBEAUCE and a few more we are awaiting confirmation from.
This will be out in September, as will some of the following, finances
pending:
THE REMOTE VIEWER 12" EP
CRABSTICK "Discoverooster" LP - Long awaited 2nd LP recorded in 1991
and still as fresh 8 years on.
DOWNPOUR 12" EP or LP or 10" or 7" or whatever Chris finally decides
upon. He has recorded 20 tracks but keeps changing his mind.
HUON New LP
555 REMIXED EP (more info below)
I have put up the cover scans of the new releases in the catalogue, and a photo of Long Weekend.
Also be sure and check out the fab BEACHBUGGY website at http://www.beachbuggy.co.uk!
Stewart is playing drums for Aussie Pop legends the Cannanes on their first ever UK dates, as well as shows in Germany, France, Holland.
The REMOTE VIEWER LP has been re-pressed. The CD version is released in the USA through Nu Gruv Alliance on August 3rd. They have a new website, which is by no means finished properly, but you can have a sniff at http://www.members.tripod.com/remoteviewer/
New releases this week:- (May 17th)
The fantastic KID 606 10", on red vinyl
HALKYN 7" and BEACHBUGGY 7"
BEACHBUGGY play their "Single Launch Party" on the 29th of May at Leeds Cardigan Arms. If you are around please come along. Not only because Beachbuggy are one of the hottest live acts in the world, but also as the 7" is available for one night only for a mere £1.00.
As yet no Halkyn single release party.
September Releases?
A compilation is currently being compiled as the first one we did (These Are Testing Times) has nearly sold out. Rather than re-press we thought we'd do a new one. It will be on vinyl this time, maybe a 2 X 10" package with booklet. Nu Gruv Alliance will be handling the 555 CD release in the states.
Also currently under construction a remix 12". Everyone is doing them,
so we wanna piece of the action. We have:-
HOOD the weight Remixed by KID 606
EMPRESS homeward sounds Remixed by TIN FOIL STAR
REMOTE VIEWER Remixed by THIRD EYE FOUNDATION
STEWARD backpedal Remixed by KID 606
It will hopefully appear as a 3" CD (!).
Finally, the DOWNPOUR record, that is finished and is great will also be out in September now. Chris has been really busy with Hood stuff and hasn't had time to sort out the artwork and running order. So, you'll just have to wait for that!
Lots more planned. All we need is the moolah!
Just a few quick news items:
HOOD play Thursday 29th Leeds Met with Fugazi. They have a tour in a few weeks plus a new drummer.
Andrew and Craig have left Hood to do Remote Viewer full time.
THE REMOTE VIEWER LP has SOLD OUT! We are repressing right now, along with the KID 606 10", which is now on RED VINYL, not heavy vinyl as previously advertised.
THE REMOTE VIEWER LP is out and selling fast. First 300 in hand blueprinted sleeves, the rest are in stickered sleeves. Those who have so far heard it have been amazed at its' brilliance. Don't be surprised if they aren't on 555 for long. We predict great things for Andrew and Craig. The CD will be released on 555 later this year thru Nu Gruv Alliance. Hopefully all future 555 full length releases will be available on CD in the States. We will continue to press the vinyl versions ourselves though. Vinyl still rules.
KID 606 "GQ on the EQ" will be a 6 track 10" LP (555LP10) pressed on 220 gram vinyl, and not 12" as previously thought. It will be ready in May.
Also due in May, the DOWNPOUR 12" which is now also no longer a 12" but evolved into a 20 track LP (!). Both are quite incredible records in our totally biased opinion.
Also in May:
THE FAMOUS BOYFRIEND CD is out. It's called "Making Love All Night Wrong." Quick apology for those who have ordered it from us and not recieved it yet. This is because the artwork was lost (although I think the reality is Andrew forgot to post it to me). Those who have ordered already we're sending them out now, so check your mail shortly. Those who haven't ordered but are interested to a degree, let me remind you they are available only from us, 555 Recordings, that's it. As they say on the telly, this item is not available in the shops...

Other news:
Some compilations 555 parties have been involved with:
Prosical LP on Orgasm Records
Featuring exclusive Steward, Empress and Famous Boyfriend tracks, as well as Clair, Acetate
Zero, and a bunch of French bands.
Plan Boom comp CD on What's That Noise Records of Germany
Exclusive Empress and Famous Boyfriend tracks. Plus loads of others.
Some confusion over the REMOTE VIEWER LP. Well, for those who don't know, the Remote Viewer is Andrew and Craig from The Famous Boyfriend. Basically without the singing in a more minimal, fuzzy electronica mode. To confuse matters further we also have the FB fantastically titled mailorder CD. The reason this CD is mailorder is because Andrew and Craig would rather you bought the Remote Viewer LP. We think they're both great records, hence the compromised mailorder release of the FB CD. Phew.
New out also (1st week of April) is the debut EP from LONG WEEKEND. Another classy Aussie Pop band. This is their debut EP from the melodic Melbourne all girl trio. Previously they had a track on the 555 Comp 7" EP.
HOOD Domino LP/CD is finally out in April. UK and European tour to follow. (We have a limited amount of Hood T-Shirts- £9 UK, £10 or $15 elsewhere)
KID 606 is currently re-mixing (the) Weight EP for re-release later this year (it's nearly sold out).
KID 606 also has a 12" coming out on 555 in April-ish, called "GQ on the EQ". For those unfamiliar the Kid makes a fair old racket in a f***ed up d'n'b stylee. There's no-one we can think of doing a similar thing and we're excited about doing a record with him. His previous releases have been on Vinyl Communications. Some of his stuff is along the lines of Downpour.
Talking of which there is a new DOWNPOUR release forthcoming. Not sure what it will be yet - we think a 5 or 6 track 12" mini-LP. And we think Drop Beat will be doing the CD version. That's April/May time too. The Downpour tracks we have heard are simply incredible. I can't begin to describe them.
Forthcoming also is a HALKYN 7". Previously only released a track on the These Are Testing Times CD. Halkyn are a 2-piece from Wales and they play slow and quiet and sparse.
Also up soon BEACHBUGGY, Doncaster's finest dragstrip allstars with a classy racket of Fallesque 50s garage punk rockabilly. Or something like that. After remarkable and frequent Leeds gigs we had to do a record. They have a CD and 7" out on Sympathy For The Record Industry.
For those of you looking for the Empress album, the CD version is available from Pehr Records for $9.00 in the US and $11.00 overseas. I think it includes the first single, too.
