New York Forward Achieves Feat in Only Five Minutes |

Sophia Witherspoon writes her place in history. |
LOS ANGELES -- With 14:46 showing on
the clock, Sophia Witherspoon carried out what no other
WNBA player ever had. Her double-dribble due to defensive pressure
from Jamila Wideman made the
outcome of the game almost secondary. This was history
and the game was appropriately stopped so that the ball
could be saved and shipped to the Hall of Fame.
As a former All-SEC selection at Georgia, Witherspoon
ranks this as her most memorable achievement:
"This is a day to remember. There will be other All-SEC
players, but no one who can take my place as the
first to double-dribble in the WNBA."
New York Liberty Head Coach, Nancy Darsch, called the double dribble a key to the game, citing the momentum shift that ensued, bringing the Liberty back from a |
