Write-up by Steve -- Pictures by Jarda, Susan S and Steve

Was happy to see six people on this mid-week hike to the new (to us) highpoint of Rocky Ridge. The happiness was in part because I expected I might need help.

Susan shot off at the start. Manfred mentioned that my track was to the right of the road (which it was), so I dutifully went over there. That route seems to be less used now at the start compared to the old days, but a track becomes clear a little higher up the hill. I watched Susan go onto Cuesta Trail even after yelling to her twice. Oh well, she made it to the high point location, so it worked out.

The rest of us took the road and looped around the tower before heading up the use trail to the prominent rock outcropping befitting "Rocky Ridge". There are three points in the area with the same elevation contour. Each of those points has been considered the highest point during my lifetime. But now this farthest-flung peak is considered the highest and it's easy to see how it might have been missed.

Mihail and I made it to the "true" HP because we were the only two motivated by the 1 kft prominence. Jarda seriously considered it, but no one else gave it a second thought. I was ready to bail if not for the fact that there were two people to give some feedback/help on the way down. Besides that, it was an easy hike for Las Trampas compared to what we'd normally do, but it still had enough elevation on the way up to keep us honest.
