Fire Truck
Fire Truck was a follow-up to Superbug. The motivation for the game wasto create a two player cooperative driving game. In Fire Truck, one player drove the front of the truck, and the other player drove the rear. It was trickier than it sounds.
Most of the software was lifted from Superbug. The real programming challenge I faced was developing artificial intelligence, so that a single player could play alone. And of course, it was important that the player had the choice to drive either the front or the back of the firetruck. Once I got the basic logic to work, it was clear that tuning the computer player was going to be very important. If the computer player was too good, then the human player couldn't crash, even if he was a novice. If the computer player wasn't good enough, then it would cause crashes which would anger good players. Eventually, I found the right balance, and the game went on to be a success.
