He married Lydia Ladd, 1809, North Hero, Grand Isle County, Vermont.^1,2,3  Lydia, daughter of Jedediah Perkins Ladd & Rebecca Hazen³, was born Aug 11 1789³, North Hero, Grand Isle County, Vermont³ [Connecticut^4,7].  

Six children,³ including:

Lydia's father, Jedediah Perkins Ladd, in 1803 built the first store and hotel in North Hero, Vermont.  He was postmaster, sheriff, Register of Probate, and Judge of the County Court.  He was also a Representative in the Legislature.³  

Abner and family lived in North Hero, Vermont, from 1830 to about 1850, then removing to Alburg, Vermont, and again after a few years to Potsdam, St. Lawrence County, New York.^1,2  

Abner and family were shown in the 1850 census (Aug 30 1850), Alburg, Grand Isle County, Vermont:⁴

Lydia died Oct 16 1875, Potsdam, Saint Lawrence County, New York; buried Section 17 Plot 130, Garfield Cemetery, Potsdam, St. Lawrence County, New York.^3,7

A biographical sketch of Abner was published in the 1897 "Doty-Doten Family in America", by Ethan Allen Doty:²

ABNER DOTY, son Samuel Doty and Anna Shepard, b. prob. Chatham, N. Y., March 21, 1787; m. Lydia Ladd.  He sold out in Chatham, 1826, and lived from 1830 till about 1850, N. Hero, Vt., then removed to Alburg, Vt. and again after a few years to W. Potsdam, N. Y., where he d. Nov. 19, 1881, and she d. later.   An obituary notice of his death reads: "Mr. Doty was born in Columbia County and passed his earlier years in the vicinity of Hudson and Albany.  He attended school with Martin Van Buren, and was intimate with the celebrated lawyer, Leith Williams, and his associates, who have long ago 'passed beyond.'.  He was a life-long Democrat, and has breathed the atmosphere of every Presidential election from Washington down.  Few men understood better than he the structure of our government.  Born about the time that the articles of peace between Great Britain and the United States were signed at Paris, he has lived through the whole existence of his country, which he loved so well, which he defended in 1812 as a soldier, and to which he was ever faithful to the last.  In religious matters Mr. Doty was a staunch Universalist; in that faith he lived and died."   Children: 10453. i. Abner was mentioned in a 1918 history of early Westville, New York:

Early merchants at the Corners were Samuel Fletcher, Meigs & Wead, Ebenezer Man, Henry G. Button, Edwin Phillips and John Doty, Charles and Horace Johnson, Abner Doty, Goodrich Hazen, William Smith and Amos Cushman.   ...   The oldest hotel in Westville dates back to 1828 or earlier, and used to be known as "the plastered tavern house".  It was at the Corners and was demolished in 1856, its last use having been by Moses Abbott as a wheelwright shop.  The earliest mention of it that I find in deeds recorded in the county clerk's office makes Abner Doty the owner in 1836, and then John S. Hogaboom in 1837.  Henry G. Button bought it in 1839.  The names of its landlords I am almost wholly unable to ascertain.  Harrison Freeman, now ninety-six years old, came to Westville as a lad of six years in 1828, and a memorandum of his reminiscences made by his daughter, Mrs. A. N. Tower, states that he stayed the first night with his parents at this hotel, and that it was then kept by a Mr. Hyde.  Mr. Freeman's recollection, though not positive, is that later landlords in it were Abner Doty and Philemon Berry.
