Jane was Harold's former high school sweetheart from North High School in Des Moines, Iowa.2 Jane had been previously married in 1934 to Carl Leland Barton, who had died in 1959.10
In 1994 Harold was living in/near Dundee, Kane County, Illinois.4

Jane Christine Barton, 101 years old, formerly of Urbandale and Des Moines, passed from this world in Lexington VA to be with our Lord on July 30, 2012. Mrs. Barton was born to Rose (Nichols) and James Spencer on January 14, 1911 in David City, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl Leland Barton, her second husband, Harold (Shorty) Hinshaw, her big brother Eugene (Max) Spencer of Orange CA, and her baby brother Benjamin (Ben) Spencer of Alturas, CA. Mrs. Barton grew up in Des Moines and attended West High School before it closed and graduated from North High School in 1929. She met Carl Barton of Makinaw, IL who attended the Des Moines College of Pharmacy and they married in 1934. Mr. Barton passed in 1959. Mrs. Barton and her youngest son Brad moved to Urbandale in 1964. Mrs. Barton worked at Roosevelt High School as Secretary in the main office and to the six student counselors for over 10 years before retiring. She moved to the Chicago area in 1979 to be near her son David and met and married Mr. Hinshaw. He passed in 1994. She moved to Lexington, VA in 2002. She was a great teller of stories, especially about living through the Great Depression. She loved to cook and made the best old fashioned sugar cookies.
Mrs. Barton is survived by her sons Bradley (Sheree) Barton of Ankeny, and David Barton of Schaumberg IL, and grandsons Andrew Leland Barton and John Paul Benson of California. Brad wishes to thank his close and old friends Rick Thomas and Derald Higby who looked in on his mom and did for her after he moved to California in 1977. Mrs. Barton will be buried in Bloomington, IL next to Mr. Barton following a family service.
