Norman and Helen owned the "Kent News Agency" and the "Wyoming News Company".  They were publishers of the Scottsbluff Newspaper and the Worland, Wyoming Newspaper.5  

In 1994 Helen was living in/near Scottsbluff, Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska.3

Helen H. Kent

SCOTTSBLUFF -- A funeral Mass for Helen H. Kent, 73 of 2502 Addison Avenue, Scottsbluff, who died May 11, 1994 at the Scottsbluff hospital, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with the Rev. Charles Torpey officiating.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff.  A prayer vigil will be today at 7 p.m. at the church.  

A memorial has been established to St. Agnes School Foundation.  

Friends may call at Jolliffe Funeral Home today from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the prayer vigil and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.  

She was born to Forest Q. and Gladys (Morris) Hinshaw on June 23, 1920, at Gering, where she grew up and attended public school.  She married Norman J. Kent of Scottsbluff on Sept. 26, 1937, at Torrington, Wyoming, and they made their home in Scottsbluff ever since.  She assisted her husband in established the Kent News Agency, and in 1948 they started Wyoming News Co. at Worland, Wyoming.  She was active in both businesses until 1984.  She was involved in community musical organizations and enjoyed traveling with her husband during her retirement years.  

Survivors include her husband; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. John N. Kent and Virginia of New Orleans, Douglas H. Kent and Louise of Scottsbluff and Dr. Michael W. Kent and Cecelia of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter and son-in-law Jody and Brian Brannon of Grand Junction, Colo.; brother and sister in law John M. and Tensie Hinshaw of Lake Montezuma, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Norman died Oct 31 1998, Regional West Medical Center, Scottsbluff, Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska; buried Fairview Cemetery, Scottsbluff, Nebraska.3,5,7

Norman J. Kent

SCOTTSBLUFF - Norman J. Kent, 82, a life-long resident, cummunity leader and businessman in Scottsbluff, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at Regional West Medical Center.  A prayer vigil will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff.  A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, concelebrated by Father James O'Kane and Father Charles Torpey.  Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery.  Joliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff is in charge of arrangements.  Friends may call 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at the prayer vigil.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. Agnes School Foundation.  

He was born April 7, 1916 in Scottsbluff to R.J. and Bertha (Seiffert) Kent.  He grew up and attended public school in Scottsbluff and also attended Scottsbluff Junior College.  He married Helen Hinshaw of Gering, Sept. 26, 1937, in Torrington, Wyoming.  They made their home in Scottsbluff.  He established the Wyoming News Company in Worland, Wyoming.  

He was active in many community projects in Scottsbluff.  He had been a member of the Scottsbluff-Gering Rotary Club since 1944 and was a member of the Scottsbluff-Gering United Chamber of Commerce.  He served as its president in 1960 and received the Trailblazer award in 1967.  He served on the Board of Directors of Scottsbluff National Bank from 1958 until the bank merged with FirsTier Bank in 1990.  He also served on the Board of Directors of Western National Bank until it merged with Scottsbluff National Bank in 1987.  He had served on the Advisory Board of St. Mary Hospital from 1968 to 1970 and had served on the Board of Directors of Hiram Scott College.  He was a life long member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.  

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Dr. John N. and Virginia Kent of New Orleans, Douglas H. and Louise Kent of Scottsbluff and Dr. Michael W. and Cecilia Kent of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter and son-in-law Jody Kent-Briner and George Briner of Grand Junction, Colo; sister and brother-in-law Thelma and Jim Bachand of Chico, Calif; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and special care givers Edna Cook of Scottsbluff, and Sherry Fibelstad of Bayard.  

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, brothers Ronald, Leo and Edwin; and sister Grace Koller.
