Gaston F. Suarez Sr.  

Gaston F. Suarez Sr., 90, of Richmond, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, at Reid Hospital after a short illness.  

He was born Oct. 23, 1916, in Cobija, Bolivia, to Francisco and Cristina Dominguez Suarez.  Gaston came to the United States in 1957, living in Winchester until moving to Richmond 31 years ago.  

He formerly worked as import and export manager of the Swiss Co. in Bolivia.  He retired after working 19 years at Joseph H. Hill Floral Products.  

He served as mayor of Riberalta, Bolivia.  He was past president and district governor of the Riberalta Lions Club and was a member of the Club Sociale in Riberalta.  

Gaston was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sarah; four children, Mabel and husband David Bigger of LaFontaine, Gaston and wife Kristi Suarez Jr. of Holton, Kan., Frank Suarez of Fort Wayne and Blanca and husband Mike Conley of San Diego, Calif.  He is also survived by six grandchildren, Nathan, David and Deborah Bigger and Aleesa, Kadi and Hanah Suarez; nieces and nephews.  

His daughter, Edith Ann Suarez, died Sept. 23, 1981, and his sister, Blanca Suarez, died in 1982.  

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Hinshaw and Rev. Ken Yingling officiating.  Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.  Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Sarah Anna (Hinshaw) Suárez, 86, of Richmond passed away September 8, 2008, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, David and Mabel Bigger, in La Fontaine, Indiana.  She was born March 6, 1922, in Sorata, Bolivia, South America, to the Reverend Alva and the Reverend Mabel Hinshaw, who were Quaker missionaries.  Sarah came to the United States to finish high school at Union Bible Seminary and attended Marion College before returning to the mission field.  Upon her return to Bolivia, she served as a teacher and director of the Quaker elementary school.  She also taught English and music at the public high school in Riberalta.  She married Gaston Suárez, who had previously been the mayor of Riberalta, on December 30, 1953 and they came to the United States in 1957.  Two of her children were born in Bolivia, and the other three were born in Winchester, Indiana.  She was employed at Reid Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1987.  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Winchester, and for a time served as regent.  She also served as president of the Missionary Society of the First Church of the Nazarene in Richmond, as a pianist for Sunday services at Oak Ridge Nursing Home and as a volunteer at Reid Memorial Hospital.  She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Richmond.  Survivors include two daughters, Mabel (David) Bigger of La Fontaine, Indiana, and Blanca (Mike) Conley of San Diego, California, and two sons, Gaston O. (Kristi) Suárez, of Holton, Kansas, and Frank Suárez of Fort Wayne, Indiana, a brother, Joseph Hinshaw of Alexandria, Virginia, and six grandchildren: Nathan, David and Deborah Bigger and Kadi, Aleesa and Hanah Suárez.  She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Edith Suárez, sisters, Alice Smoker, Esther Zimmerman, and Dorcas Seawell, and brothers Basil Hinshaw and James Hinshaw.  Services are at 10 AM Friday, September 12th at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home, 222 North 10th Street, Richmond.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday.  Online condolences may be sent to or log onto www.stegallberheideorr.com.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Nazarene Youth International (NYI), and [sic] organization that promotes mission work for high school and college students c/o First Church of the Nazarene 1600 Chester Blvd. Richmond, Indiana 47374; or Reid Hospital Foundation where the need is greatest 1401 Chester Blvd Richmond, Indiana 47374.
