John "Al" Hinshaw, 94, of Huntsville passed away Thursday. A memorial service will be announced later by Laughlin Service Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the Downtown Rescue Mission.

HINSHAW HUNTSVILLE, AL - John A. Hinshaw July 15, 1917 - Sept. 29, 2011
John "Al" Hinshaw, 94, of Huntsville, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2011. After serving in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician, he went on to found and operate the first radio station in Elkin, N.C. He later worked as a test engineer on various missile defense systems and the Apollo Space Program. Survivors include wife of 57 years, Louise M. Hinshaw; son, Johnny Hinshaw and wife, Karen; daughter, Carol Westra and husband, Doug; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Seanor officiating. Laughlin Service Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the Downtown Rescue Mission.
