HINSHAW, Ted Rodel May 27, 1926-October 24, 2008
Ted Rodel Hinshaw, a longtime Gresham area resident and educator, died in his home Fri., Oct. 24. He was 82.
Mr. Hinshaw was born May 27, 1926, in Mount Vernon, Ore., to Albert Oral and Inez Moore Hinshaw. His grandfather traveled the Oregon Trail with the famous Lost Wagon Train of 1845. He was a two-sport athlete at Grant Union High School in John Day, and led his team to a state championship in football in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was part of the invasion of Okinawa. He married his high school sweetheart, Clara Belle LeRoy, Nov. 9, 1944.
Mr. Hinshaw received his bachelor's and master's degree at Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, and was an elementary and middle school principal at Grand Ronde and Clatskanie before accepting a position at Rockwood Middle School in Gresham, from which he retired in 1980.
Mr. Hinshaw enjoyed sports, the outdoors and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Clara, also traveled extensively, including driving tours around the U.S. and a trip to Europe.
Mr. Hinshaw is survived by his wife, Clara; sons, Tim and Jeff; daughter, Vicki; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jon, in 1980.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12300 S.E. 312th Avenue, Boring, (just off highway 26 west of Sandy.)
Interment will take place the following day at 2 p.m. at Ingle Creek Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.

Note: The obituary is incorrect in stating that burial occured in Ingle Creek Cemetery; he and family are actually buried in Fletcher Cemetery (which is close to Ingle Creek Cemetery).7
