Norman E. Henshaw
Age 90, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, passed away Dec. 4, 2003, while visiting his daughter in Peoria, AZ.  He was born Dec. 2, 1913 in North Attleboro, MA, and moved to Tacoma in 1936.  He was an alumni of Dartmouth College and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.  Norm was a decorated WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, 61st Field Hospital in the European Theater.  It was there that he met and later married Stefanie Asanova in Salzburg, Austria in 1945.  He worked for Tacoma Plumbing Supply, which later became United Supply Co. (wholesale plumbing, heating & industrial supplies) for 42 years and retired as Branch Manager in 1978.  Norm loved the Puget Sound.  In his younger years he skied the slopes of Mt. Rainier, coached Little League sports, and enjoyed fishing at Westport and Sekiu.  Retirement years were spent reading, watching sports and tallying scores and attendance of the Mariners, Diamondbacks, Seahawks, Huskies and Cougars.  Fishing and clam digging were also favorites.  Norm was a great athlete in high school and college, excelling in football, basketball and track.  In 1974 he was inducted into the Greater Attleboro Hall of Fame, No. Attleboro H.S. Class of 1931.  Norm was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Henshaw.  He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Stefanie; son Stephen and his wife Susan, son Douglas and his wife Linda, daughter Barbara; grandchildren Stacy Fuoco (Tony), Kimberly Ellis (Roy), Stephanie Mallory (Chris), Alea Henshaw, Alex Henshaw; step-grandchildren Erica and Sara Stansfield, Abbey Doyel; great-grandchildren Nathan and Emily Ellis, Colby Peterson; sister June Robertson of Foxboro, MA and her children, John, David, Susan and Steven, and their families; very special foster family and descendants of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Haley; and close long time friends the "Slavs" of Old Town Tacoma.  Norm was a gentle, selfless man who always gave much and expected little, if anything, in return.  He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.  Private inurnment at Haven of Rest Memorial Park, Gig Harbor.  There will be an informal gathering for family and friends to celebrate Norm’s spirit, character and life on Thursday, December 18th, 12 noon-3 pm, at the West Park Condos clubhouse, 8002 52nd St. Ct., University Place.  In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the American Heart Assoc. of your favorite charity.
