Rufus' obituary was as follows:20
Monroe Co. lost a valuable citizen in the death of Mr. Rufus D. Hinchee which occurred at his home near Crimson Springs, now (McGlone) at 4:25 o'clock last Friday afternoon Oct. 1, 1920 after an illness of about 10 days. His death was due to a general collapse of his physical faculties which came upon him unexpectedly and quickly ended his life. His age was 61 years. Mr. Hinchee was born in Craig County Va but had lived a long time in this county. He was a conscientious, upright Christian man and a loyal member of the Baptist Church. As a true friend and kind neighbor he was unusually esteemed and he will be sadly missed by many most of all in the home which he adorned as a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife who before marriage was a Miss Trenor and 11 children. Mrs. Edith Dowdy of Gap Mills, Mrs. Della Bell, Mrs. Everett Neal and Mrs. Madge Hellems of McGlone, Mrs. Ethel Woolwine of Williamson W.VA, Miss Lida of Akron, Oh, Miss Gladys Hinchee at home Messrs. Armah, W.K. and Chalmers of Williamson and Frank Hinchee whose home is near Union. The funeral took place from the chruch near Mr. Hinchee's home last Sunday the services being conducted by the pastor, Rev H.G. Evans a very large congregation of friends being present after which the body of the deceased was taken to Gap Mills and interred in M. Carmel cemetery. A precious one from us has gone. A voice is stilled. A place is vacant in our home. Which never can be filled. God in his wosdom has recalled The boon his love had given. And though the body slumbers here the soul is safe in heaven.
