Stanley was a World War I veteran.1 On June 5, 1917 Stanley Hinshaw, age 25, registered for the World War I draft at Aberdeen, Brown County, South Dakota. He declared he was single, born April 21, 1892 in Minnespolis, Minnesota, his residence was 1105 Lincoln, Aberdeen, South Dakota, and he was employed as a machinist with Hub City Iron Works in Aberdeen. He was recorded as medium height, medium build, gray eyes, light brown hair.7 He served as a Wagoner in Company A, 340th M.G. Batallion.12

Cathryn, daughter of Ben Gurdis & Hannah VanHeuvelan, was born Aug 28 1900, Minnesota.1,4,9,14,15,16,17 Cathryn, whose parents immigrated from Germany 1881/1882, had been working as a restaurant waitress in Redfield, South Dakota.17
