Hanshaw, Orville, head-of-household, age 29, born in Kentucky; completed 6th grade; on Apr 1 1935 was living in the same place; rented farm ($2.00/month rent); occupation: driller, lime quarry; worked 38 weeks in 1939; $250 wages in 1939.
Hanshaw, Lorene, wife, age 19, born in Kentucky; completed 8th grade; on Apr 1 1935 was living in the same place.
Living next door in 1940 (or on the same farm) were Arville's parents and siblings.10
On May 18 1943 John A. Hanshaw, born 1911 in Kentucky, enlisted as a private in the U.S. military (no branch assigned) in Huntington, West Virginia. He declared he had a grammar school education and was separated, with dependents, a resident of Alaska. He was recorded as 53 inches tall, 60 lbs. His civil occupation was recorded as "Jackhammer Operator".9
John Arville Hanshaw died Aug 8 1991, Olive Hill, Carter County, Kentucky; age 80.3,4,5 (Rowan, Kentucky).4 Death certificate #21531.4 Also SSN: 400-09-74745 [two Social Security records, two Kentucky death records!]
