Eleanor Henshaw

Eleanor Schroder, a resident of Cedar Crest Village since 2003, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2011.  She was 86.  

Born in Jersey City and raised in Teaneck, Eleanor was a graduate of Teaneck High School.  Eleanor married George F. Henshaw Jr. in 1944.  She graduated summa cum laude from Farleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck in 1986.  The couple were long time residents of Hillsdale where they raised their family.  

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, George F. Henshaw Jr.; her seven children, George Henshaw III, Lark Henshaw and Adrienne Kallen, Douglas Henshaw and his wife Karen, William Henshaw and his wife Louanne, Michael Henshaw and his wife Cynthia, Donald Henshaw and his wife Joyce, Allison Doherty and her husband James; her brother, William Schroder; her sister-in-law, Alice Jones; sixteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  

A memorial service will be held 10 AM, October 15 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Pompton Plains.  www.scanlanfuneral.com

HENSHAW George F. "Bud" Jr., 92, of Pompton Plains, passed away at home on Thursday, June 16, 2016.  

George was born at Englewood Hospital on Sept. 1, 1923.  He resided in Norwood, until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in Dec. 1942.  George served in the Pacific Theater in WWII.  He achieved the rank of Aviation Ordinanceman First Class and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Navy Air Medal with 2 gold stars.  During his tenure in the Pacific, as part of the VC-90 airmen, he served aboard Air Craft Carrier USS Steamer Bay and flew direct support for landings and operations at Iwo Jima and Okinawa.  

He married the love of his life, Eleanor Schroder, while home from the service on a 3-day pass, in August 1944.  They were happily married for 67 years and raised their family in Hillsdale, NJ.  

Post WWII, George owned a Texaco Gas Station in Elmwood Park.  He also worked briefly for Metropolitan Life Insurance and was a senior sales representative for Sears for over 25 years, before retiring in 1987.  

George was predeceased by his wife Eleanor in 2011, his sister Gloria Baker in 2004 and his sister Alice Jones in 2012.  He is survived by his seven children; George F. III of Cragsmoor, NY, Lark of Westwood, Douglas and his wife Karen of Murphy, NC, William and his wife Louanne of Norwood, Michael and his wife Cynthia of Warwick, NY, Donald and his wife Joyce of Rock Tavern, NY, and Allison Doherty of Wantage, NJ.  His daughter Lark's life partner, Adrienne Kallen, died in November of 2015 and his son-in-law James Doherty, died in April 2016.  George is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  He was adored by his family and all who knew him and will be greatly missed.  

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 25 at The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, 670 Newark-Pompton Tpke, Pompton Plains, NJ.  

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Grace Hospice Care, 105 Fieldcrest Ave., Suite 402, Edison, NJ 08837.
