During World War II John served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from Jan 25 1941 to Nov 24 1945.7,8  On Jan 25 1941 Wallace J. Hinshaw, born 1915 in Iowa, enlisted at Sacramento, California as a private in the U.S. Army.9,10  He declared he had four years of high school, was single, without dependents, occupation: "instrument repairman, nonelectrical or traffic man, railway (car distributor, railway) or dispatcher, railway or yardmaster".  He was recorded as 64" tall, 129 lbs.10  

In 1984 John was living in/near Kailua, Honolulu County, Hawaii11 (2177 Puowaina Drive, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813).7
