Samuel was apparently born Samuel Perry McFarland, a child of Nancy Reynolds's earlier marriage to Calvin McFarland.3,8  He seems to have adopted the Hinshaw name when young,1,2 but reverted to McFarland later in life.4,5,6  

He married Luisa/Louise Duman/Dryman/Drymon, Jun 8 1873, Greene County, Tennessee.4

McFarland, Eliza Jane, daughter, age 1, born in Tennessee; parents born in Tennessee.
Drymon, Melissa, mother [sic], age 62, born in North Carolina; parents born in North Carolina; widow; cannot read or write.
Living next door in 1880 was the family of brother Nathan.9

Samuel Perry McFarland died 1931, buried Midway Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery, Midway, Greene County, Tennessee.7,10
