Cornelius served as a boy in the drum corps during the Revolution. His tombstone states he was taken prisoner at the battle of Long Island and confined in the old Dutch Church, New York City.4
In 1806 Mary and Cornelius removed to Olean, New York.4
In 1832 Cornelius was placed on the pension roll for seven months actual service as a fifer with the Northampton County, Pennsylvania, Associators.4
