William came to America at age 14. According to family folklore, he was visiting a friend on a ship that was becalmed but ready to sail to america. He went to sleep and found himself on his way to America. He was bonded out to a Mr. Hoag in North Carolina for seven years. William became a Quaker in 17584
He married Susannah Pike, Jul 13 1758, Cane Creek MM, North Carolina.1,2,3,4,7,9 Susannah, daughter of John Pike & Abigail Overman, was born Oct 27 1737, Frederick County, Virginia.1,4,7,8,9
Susannah's maternal grandparents were Ephraim Overman and Sarah Belman. Her grandmother's Belman line has extensive connections to the royalty of much of Europe.9

[Spring preparative meeting] Also informs that request is made for certificates for Susanna and Ann Lee to Lick Creek monthly meeting State of Indiana Hannah Newlinsen and Susanna Gillum are appointed to make the needful inquiry and if they find nothing to hinder produce one to next meeting.
