William joined the California National Guard, "Petaluma Emmets Rifles", Company C, 5th Infantry.3 That company had been organized Jun 29 1869 (and in 1891 Willie's cousin Brite Burnett Hinshaw was captain).3
William Carter Hinshaw died Nov 2 1893, Sonoma County, California; age 28 years 11 months 9 days.1,2 William's cause of death was "Hepetitis and Gastritis".4 William never married.4
