Florence had been previously married May 30 1901 to Edwin Lain Sanford, who had died Apr 20 1914.  She had one child from her previous marriage,6 James H. Sanford.7  

On Sep 12 1918 Raymond Jerome Henshaw, age 40, registered for the World War I draft in Elmira, Chemung County, New York.  He declared he was born Nov 6 1877, and was then residing at 50? [unclear] Fitch St., Elmira, New York where he was a salesman employed by the H[..unclear..] Furnace Co. of Homer, Calhoun County, Michigan.  He declared his nearest relative was his wife, Florence E. Henshaw, of the same address.  He was recorded as tall, medium build.11  

In the 1920 census (Jan 8 1920), Hattie and son Gaylord were shown living in the household of Hattie's sister in Toledo, Ohio:12
