Ernest was a World War I veteran.5 On Jun 5 1917 Ernest Hinshaw, age 21, registered for the World War I draft in El Paso County, Colorado. He declared he was born September 23rd 1896 in Parsons, Kansas, and was then residing in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he was single and a self-employed farmer, supporting his mother. He was recorded as medium height, medium build, light blue eyes, light brown hair.3
In a listing of veterans believed to have been compiled shortly after the war by the El Paso County Clerk, Ernest's address was shown as Motor Route A, Box 6, Colorado Springs.5
He married Mary "Mollie" Wilson.1
He then married Mary Anita Lacy.1 Mary was born Sep 12 1899.1
