Ernest was a World War I veteran.^d    On Jun 5 1917 Ernest Hinshaw, age 21, registered for the World War I draft in El Paso County, Colorado.    He declared he was born September 23rd 1896 in Parsons, Kansas, and was then residing in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he was single and a self-employed farmer, supporting his mother.    He was recorded as medium height, medium build, light blue eyes, light brown hair.^a

In a listing of veterans believed to have been compiled shortly after the war by the El Paso County Clerk, Ernest's address was shown as Motor Route A, Box 6, Colorado Springs.^d

He married Mary "Mollie" Wilson.^b

He then married Mary Anita Lacy.^b    Mary was born Sep 12 1899.^b
