He married Mary Kate McKown⁹ [Katherine McKown¹]. Mary, daughter of G. + C.Y. McKown, was born about 1850, Gerardstown, Berkeley County, Virginia.⁹

Mary died Oct 1 1878, Mill Creek, Berkeley County, West Virginia; age 28.⁹ Katherine died with no issue.¹

Widower John was shown in the 1880 census (Jun 2 1880), living with his mother in Berkeley County, West Virginia:⁷

He then married Mary Murray Wily, about 1881, Presbyterian Church, Gerrardstown, West Virginia.^1,2 Mary, daughter of Dr. John Bolling Wily & Anne Gifford Murray, was born Jul - 1862, Virginia.^1,2

John and family were shown in the 1900 census (Jun 20 1900), 414 W. John St., Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia:²

Note there is something seriously wrong with this data by Edith Henshaw Kuntz. John's eldest children are shown born well after he reportedly died!¹⁰
