He then married Lucille E. Aliff^1,4 [Erma Lucille Aliff⁹], about 1927^1,4.  Lucille, daughter of James Edward Aliff & Della Viola Jarrett, was born Jul 30 1906, Gassaway, Braxton County, West Virginia.^{1,2,9,10,11,12}

Lucille's obituary was published in "The Charleston Gazette" (Charleston, West Virginia) on March 14, 1989:¹⁶

Mrs. Lucille Aliff Hanshaw of 601 44th Street S.E., died March 13, 1989, in Memorial Division, CAMC, after a long illness.   She was a member of Morris Memorial United Methodist Church.   Surviving; daughter, Bettie H. Doss of Charleston; brother, James E. Aliff Jr. of Charleston; sisters, Edith Hudson of Charleston, Meb Wellman of Alexandria, Va.; two grandchildren.   Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at J.E. Johnson Funeral Home, Kanawha City, with the Rev. G. Randall Adkins officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.
