On Jun 5 1917 William Edward Dappen, age 24, had registered for the World War I draft in Richardson County, Nebraska. He declared he was born Dec 12 1892 in Liberty Precinct, Dawson, [Richardson County,] Nebraska, and he was then still residing in Dawson where he was single, without dependents, and a farm laborer. He was recorded as short, stout, gray eyes, light brown hair.8
The birth of son Ted was announced in the "Lincoln Evening Journal" (Lincoln, Nebraska) on Saturday, September 3, 1938:11
