In school Richard entered an extemporaneous speech contest and took first place.    When someone said to him that they did not know he could spiel off stuff like that, Dick said, "Oh yes, just call me Gabby." So everyone did from that day forward.    Some people still ask about "Gabby".a
He married Alice Joyce King, Mar 15 1952, Alice, Texas.a    Alice, daughter of Jack King & Irease Hood, was born Jan 30 1935, Kosse, Limestone County, Texas.c,d

Crashes at Dayton DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- A disabled plane carrying four persons crashed short of the runway at Montgomery County Airport south of Dayton Friday but only one of the four suffered minor injuries.
She is Mrs. Dolores C. Hinshaw, 33, of Paioli, Ind.    The pilot, Robert S. Hinshaw, 41, of Grove City, Ind., Mrs. Hinshaw's brother-in-law, and the other two passengers were unhurt.
Dick served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged.    He worked most of life as an electrician.    He received the honor and title of being named a Kentucky Colonel on three separate occasions for having saved the life of a Kentuckian.a
Dick is funny, clever, talented and smart, and a great story teller.    He is also great at swapping and sometimes has done it just for pleasure.    Some have said he is the only man who could take a shoestring to a swap meet and drive home with a Cadillac.
He not only swaps things, but he likes to swap stories as well.    He is so witty, and tells the craziest stories like they were the truth so that anyone listening automatically believes them.    Only on occasion does the twinkle in the eye or the tiny quirk of the lips give him away.
He is a great sportsman, taking trophy fish in tournaments and hunting almost every kind of animal.a
