Born Nov 25 1918, near Sheridan, Hamilton County, Indiana.1,2,3,4,5  

Frances was a member of the Canoga Park (California) High School Drum and Bugle Corps in 1935.  In 1936 she graduated from North Hollywood High School.  Her family moved back to Pittsboro, Indiana in 1937.1  

She married Matthew Emerson "Scamie" Scamahorn, May 20 1939, Tipton, Tipton County, Indiana.1  Matthew, son of Marion Hother "Jack" Scamahorn & Bessie Florence Wilson, was born Jan 30 1919, Pittsboro, Hendricks County, Indiana.1,6  

Matthew, known as "Scamie", spent most of his youth on farms near Pittsboro, Indiana.  In high school he played on the basketball and baseball teams.1

From 1941-1946 Frances and Matthew operated "Scamie's Cafe" in Pittsboro, Hendricks County, Indiana.  She was also a pianist and served as Building Committee leader at the Christian Church.1  

In 1997 Frances was still living in/near Pittsboro, Indiana.4  

Frances Rowena Hinshaw died Dec 8 1997, Pittsboro, Hendricks County, Indiana; entombed Lincoln Memory Gardens, 6851 S Indianapolis Rd., Whitestown, Boone County, Indiana.1,4,5  

Frances' obituary was published as follows:5

Frances R. Scamahorn, 79, died Dec. 8, 1997 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.  Mrs. Scamahorn was born Nov. 25, 1918 to Claude W. and Dorothy (Seekins) Hinshaw.  She was married to Matthew E. Scamahorn.  He survives.  She worked as an operator at the Pittsboro Telephone Exchange.  With her husband and mother-in-law, she operated "Scamie's Cafe" in Pittsboro from 1946-1951.  She was a member of the Pittsboro Christian Church, serving as Sunday School superintendent for five years.  She was a member of the Women's Commission of the Christian Church at the state level and served as coordinator of women's work for the 13-county area.  She was a former president of the Home Economics Club in Pittsboro.  She was a member of the Rebeccah Lodge.  

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sandra S. Miles and Margie K. Duncan, both of Indianapolis; one brother, Les Hinshaw of Glouster, Ohio; one sister, Kathleen Bowen of Fishers, Indiana; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  

Services were Dec. 11 at the Pittsboro Christian Church with Dr. Richard A. Haynes officiating.  Private entombment was at Lincoln Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Whitestown, Indiana.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Pittsboro Christian Church.

After Frances died Matthew, at age 79 on Jul 12 1998, remarried to one of Frances' close friends, a widow for 20 years, Ellia Marsh, also 79, of Pittsboro, Indiana.7  Since Scamie had sold his long-time home in Pittsboro, he and Ellia lived in her home there.  In 2006, they moved into a retirement facility in Indianapolis.7  

Matthew died Jun 1 2008, at the home of daughter Sandra, near Bloomfield, Indiana; age 89.6,7,10

Matthew Emerson "Scamie" Scamahorn 89, of Pittsboro, was a loving father and grandfather.  He married Frances Hinshaw in 1939 and she passed away in 1997 after 58 years of marriage.  In 1998 he married Ellia (Reisert) Marsh.  During World War II, Matthew traveled to New York City to train in production of the Norden Bomb Site and returned to supervise 124 men at Naval Avionics in Indianapolis.  At war's end, he opened Scamie's Café in Pittsboro with help from his wife and mother.  The café closed after five years and he held a variety of jobs.  He worked for Detroit Diesel Allison of Indianapolis and retired after 27 years from Allison's Plant 5 as assistant chief engineer of the power plant.  In retirement, he and Frances traveled extensively in their "Tan Van", a Chevy van he designed and fitted as an all-in-one RV.  Scamie was an active member of the Pittsboro Christian Church for over 50 years.  Matthew is survived by wife, Ellia Scamahorn; daughter, Sandra (Ed Paynter) Miles; three grandchildren, Cheryl (Barry) Riddle, Brian Miles and Michael Duncan; and four great grandchildren; and brother, Eugene Scamahorn.  He was preceded in death by parents, Marion and Beasie Scamahorn; wife, Frances R. (Hinshaw) Scamahorn; and daughter, Margie Duncan.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, June 6 at Pittsboro Christian Church, with Rev. Dr. Aubrey Borschel officiating.  Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 5 in David A. Hall Mortuary, Pittsboro, IN.  Entombment will take place at Lincoln Memory Gardens.  Memorial contributions can be made to Bloomington Hospital Hospice.
