Gladys L. Shoemaker died May 31, 2000, at age 96. No service will be held.
Mrs. Shoemaker was born March 10, 1904, on a farm in Des Moines, Iowa, where she was raised. Her maiden name was Hinshaw. In 1933, she moved to Alhambra, Calif., and later worked as a clerk and typist for Boyle-Midway Co. near Downey, Calif., retiring in 1966. She was a founding member of the Downey First Christian Church. In 1976, she designed and built her home near Springfield, Mo. Later, she lived in Huntington, N.Y., San Diego and South Pasadena, Calif., before moving to Portland in 1998. In 1925, she married Oliver H. P. Shoemaker; he died in 1978.
Survivors include her daughters, Doris Mady and Linda Shoemaker; brother, Donald K. Hinshaw; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her daughter Norma Jean died in 1933.
