William died 1809. William wrote his will Jun 9 1809 (proven Sep 18 1809). In his will he mentioned his son John H. [Hinshaw] Gatewood, daughters Polly Gatewood and Nancy/Ann Gatewood (under 14), wife Sally, sons Phillip & Lineas - "my five children".⁴
