G. H. Henshaw Passes Away In 79th Year
Belonged to One of Oldest and Best Known Families in Dominion -- Resident of St. Hyacinthe -- Well Known in E. T.

A member of one of the oldest and best known families in Canada has passed away here in the person of George Hayward Henshaw, who died in his seventy ninth year.  A son of the late George Hayward Henshaw of Meadow Bank, St. Hyacinthe and a grandson of George Sage Henshaw, of Montreal.  Mr. Henshaw was Collector of Customs at St. Hyacinthe for several years,

The family arrived in Boston in 1642, and two brothers came to Canada as United Empire Loyalists in 1876.  The Henshaws have lived in St. Hyacinthe for about a century, but with the death of Mr. Hayward Henshaw, the name disappears from that community.

Mr. Henshaw was a descendant of the Honorable Joshua Henshaw, one of the most distinguished men in public life in Massachusetts at the end of the seventeen century.  His wife, who died recently, was a grand-daughter of Admiral Parker.

Mr. Henshaw leaves two sons, George Hayward and Melville Holt Henshaw, one daughter, Mrs. Evan Turner, of Quebec, two sisters Mrs. Algederon Brown and Mrs.Wyndham Brown.  Other relatives are Mrs. D. Forbes Angus, Lady Wiliams-Taylor and Mrs. Hayward Henshaw.

Mr. Henshaw was prominent in athletics in his day.  He had many friends and was beloved by all who knew him.

Note that the above obituary states George was a grandson of George Sage Henshaw.  But this conflicts with other known (or published) genealogies, which seem to indicate his grandfather was Joseph Burnham Henshaw.  It is possible that whoever provided the information for the obituary was in error, or perhaps the majority of independent genealogical data might be incorrect.
