Hinshaw, Verlin Orville, 76, Friends University Religion and Greek professor, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002.  Service 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Bethel Life Center.   Mr. Hinshaw was born Nov. 15, 1925 in Wichita to Orval and Ethel Craft Hinshaw.  When he was five years old the family moved to a farm near Haviland.  After graduating from Haviland High School, he married Annabelle Bowers on Aug. 26, 1945.  He attended Friends Bible College in Haviland before attending Friends University a year later.   He received his undergraduate degree from Friends University in 1948, majoring in Bible with a minor in English.  In 1951 he graduated cum laude from the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City with a Bachelor of Divinity in Biblical and Theological Studies.   He pursued further study to prepare to teach at the college level.  He obtained his Ph.D. in Biblical and Theological Studies from Vanderbilt University in 1964.  His first teaching job was at William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he spent five years before coming to Friends University in 1958.  Aside from a year leave of absence at Bethany Nazarene College in Oklahoma City, Mr. Hinshaw was in his 43rd year of teaching at Friends University.   Mr. Hinshaw served as a pastor and interim pastor of several churches in Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Tennessee.   Preceded in death by brother, LaVerne Hinshaw.   Survivors: wife of 56 years, Annabelle; son, Daryl of Dallas; daughter, Kathleen of Wichita; brother and sister-in-law, Vigil and Eleanor of Wichita; sister-in-law, Ruby Hinshaw of Hutchinson; grandson, Eric Johnson of Belle Plaine; several nieces and nephews.  Memorial established with National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, P.O. Box 79972, Baltimore, MD, 21279-0972.  Hillside Funeral Home West.

Anna died Nov 7 2010.⁶

Annabelle Hinshaw June 26, 1921 - Nov. 7, 2010 Ann L. Hinshaw, 89, of Sarasota, formerly of Syracuse, Indiana and Ashland, Ohio, died Nov. 7, 2010.   Celebration of Life will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Emeritus Colonial Park Club, 4730 Bee Ridge Rd. in Sarasota.   Survivors include her son, David L. Ulery; a foster daughter, Cathy Leiter; brothers Philip Bowers and Elmer Bowers; sisters Eileen Higgins and Carolyn Ann Bunger; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.   Ann was Women's pages Editor of the Ashland newspaper and won the title of Mrs. Ashland in 1964.  She traveled the U.S. in 1974-75 as Supreme Marshall of the National Emblem Club.  Ann was a valued staff-member in the office of Jerald Steiner, M.D. until she retired at age 85 yrs.   Arrangements under the direction of National Cremation & Burial Society, Sarasota, FL.
