Cousin Theresa McNeill Wiese wrote this remembrance of Rufus and Clara:h
"I have fond memories of Rufus and Clara Hinshaw from my childhoood (1950's).    They loved to garden and we would always visit their garden on South 9th Street in New Castle and I remember them encouraging me to try some rhubarb right out of the garden and I hated it!!    I embarrassed my parents by spitting it out immediately!    I don't think I've eaten rhubarb since!!    My mother (Janet Copeland McNeill) was a cousin of Rufus and considered Rufus the "rich" part of the family.    My mother would tell about my grandfather (Clyde Richard Copeland), who made little or no money at times during the Depression, and Rufus would help my grandfather and his family out by giving him odd jobs to do for pay and food from their large garden.    Rufus and Clara were really their lifeline during the Depression and my mother said she wasn't sure what they would have done without Rufus and Clara."
In 1970 John Rufus was still living in/near New Castle, Indiana.209
John Rufus Hinshaw died Jun 5 1970, buried South Mound Cemetery, New Castle, Henry County, Indiana.30,209
