Charles operated a business in Wheeling, West Virginia dealing in jewelry and watches.  Charles' business was listed in the 1888-1889 city directory of Wheeling, West Virginia:12

The business was again listed in the 1890-1891 Wheeling city directory, under the name "Wheat & Hancher":
Wheat & Hancher: A.A. Wheat; C. N. Hancher; dealers in diamonds, watches, fine jewelry, sterling silver and plated ware, onyx clocks, bronzes, fine pottery, &c.; 1231 Market, Wheeling, West Virginia.
The business was again listed in the 1892-1893 Wheeling city directory,
Wheat & Hancher: A.A. Wheat; Chas. N. Hancher; dealers in diamonds, watches and art goods, fine jewelry, sterling silver and plated ware, clocks, bronzes, &c.; 1231 Market, Wheeling, West Virginia.
As late as 1945 Charles was still the owner of the "Chas. N. Hancher Co.".2

Katherine died Jul 29 1950, Ohio Valley General Hospital, Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia; age 80y 5m 16d.2,14,15  Katherine was killed while sitting in a car which the driver had left for a moment, and the car moved and struck a tree.14,15
