Gary Thomas Henshaw
September 4, 1943 - September 12, 2016

Gary Thomas Henshaw, 73, Leawood, Kansas passed away Monday September 12, 2016 at Brookdale Overland Park.  A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm Thursday September 15th at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf.  Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00am Friday at Nativity Catholic Church, 3800 W. 119th Street, Leawood, Kansas.  A graveside service will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa.  Memorial contributions may be given in memory of Gary to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, Kansas 66208.  

Gary was born September 4, 1943 in Marysville, Kansas to Thomas Edgar Henshaw and Loretta Rose (Sedlacek) Henshaw.  At the age of 3 he and his parents moved to Fairway, Kansas where he went to Bishop Miege Catholic School where his strong faith throughout his life began.  He married Ellen Fehr on September 7, 1963 and together they had two children Jeffrey and Julie.  Gary was the founder and owner of Santa Fe Distributing which he opened in 1976 in Lenexa, Kansas and is still in business today.  

Gary was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling with his wife, kids and good friends.  He also spent a lot of time Golfing and Hunting throughout his adult life.  He loved the Lake of the Ozarks where they had their second home and boating with his children and grandchildren.  

He was a member at Church of the Nativity where he attended mass and in his later years at Brookdale of Overland Park he could be found attending Mass.  His faith was very important to him even up to his final days.  

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Henshaw, brother, James Henshaw, sister, Barbara Howard.  He is survived by his wife, Ellen; son, Jeffrey Henshaw and his wife, Julianne; daughter, Julie Marie Henshaw; his mother, Loretta Henshaw; brothers: Ray Henshaw, David Henshaw, Joe Henshaw and his wife, Marta, and Steve Henshaw; sisters: Janet Robbins and her husband, Ted, Sharon Mitchum and her husband, Buddy, Mary Henshaw, Beverly Henshaw, and Carol Mazza and her husband Bobby; brother-in-law, Bob Howard; grandchildren: Jaclyn, Hake, Abigail, and Amanda and his loyal buddies clear till the end; Sam and Dave.  

Gary also leaves behind his kindhearted, nurturing caretakers: Asma, Judy, and Therese who tirelessly made every hour more comfortable.  

Gary lived life to the fullest and truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  You could always find him with a dog by his side whether he was boating or hunting.  He also leaves behind his beloved Lab, Stella Rose.
