He married Virginia E. Manley, May 25 1938, Penn Yan, New York.6  Virginia, daughter of Floyd Manley & Ethel E. Shieve, was born Apr 10 1921, Millerton, Pennsylvania.2,6

During World War II Vernon served as a Staff Sergeant in the 385th Infantry, 76th Division, U.S. Army.7,8  Service #42094754.8,9  On Apr 15 1944 Vernon C. Henshaw, born 1919 in New York, enlisted at Camp Upton Yaphank, New York as a Private in the U.S. Army.  He declared he had one year of high school and was then married.5  

Vernon Clair Henshaw died Apr 9 1945, Germany; buried Plot B, Row 18, Grave 23, Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.7,8,9,10  (Apr 9 1944).6  Vernon was killed in action in Germany during World War II.10,11  He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals.7,8  

In 1950 the board of supervisors of Yates County, New York approved a bronze plaque for the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial hospital, listing every service person from Yates County who died in service; among the names was Vernon Clair Henshaw.12,13,14  

Virginia remarried to 1) Alexander A. Bartusiak, having 3 more children; then to 2) Charles Harte.6  

Virginia died Dec 25 2014, Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home, Penn Yan, New York; age 93.6  

Virginia's obituary was published in the "Finger Lakes Times" (Geneva, New York) on December 28-30, 2014:6

PENN YAN - Virginia E. Harte, age 93, of Penn Yan, N.Y. died on Christmas Day, Thursday (December 25, 2014) at the Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home, in Penn Yan, N.Y.  

Honoring the families wishes there are no prior calling hours.  A graveside memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family in the spring.  Inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Watkins Glen with the Rev. Thomas S. Castle officiating.  

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home, 655 N. Liberty St., Penn Yan, N.Y.,14527.  

Virginia was born April 10, 1921 in Millerton, Penn., the daughter of the late Floyd and Ethel E. Shieve Manley.  On May 25, 1938 in Penn Yan, N.Y. she married the late Vernon C. Henshaw, they had three children before he was killed in Action on April 9, 1944 during World War II.  On September 12, 1945 in Penn Yan, she married the late Alexander A. Bartusiak, and they had 3 more children, he passed away on September 2, 1966.  A lifelong area resident, except for 20 years spent in Florida, where she worked as a Nurses Aide in Zephyrhills, Fla.  

She is loved and will be missed by three sons, Richard V. (Veronica) Henshaw of Bradford, N.Y., William T. Henshaw and Thomas A. (Betty Jane) Bartusiak all of Penn Yan, N.Y.; two daughters, Verna J. Jayne of St. Cloud, Fla., and Rose A. Allen of Penn Yan; 20 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

She was pre-deceased by her daughter and son in law Mary R. and Carl Heller; sons-in-law Lauren "Corky" Allen and Duane Jayne; daughter-in-law Bonnie Henshaw; and her last husband Charles Harte.
