Margaret Ward Hinshaw GREENSBORO -- Margaret Ward Hinshaw, 90, formerly of Greensboro, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at her daughter's home in Orlando.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, at Bessemer United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
She was born in Greensboro, September 25, 1917, the third of seven children born to Dred C. Ward and Judith Johnson Ward. She married William Harold Hinshaw, Sr., and traveled to Air Force bases throughout the country to be near him as he trained to be a navigator during World War II. She worked as a librarian for the Greensboro News and Record for almost 20 years and later as an accountant for the North Carolina Christian Advocate. She was a lifelong member of Bessemer United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She moved to Orlando in 1997 to be near her children.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Dred P. Ward; sisters, Rebekah Ballard, Lynn Scott and Rachael Payne.
Survivors include her son, William Hinshaw, Jr., Orlando; daughter, Gail Dressel and husband, Hank, Orlando; sisters, Ruth Laughlin, Greensboro, Theba Peacock and husband, Clete, Hertford, N.C.; grandchildren, Michael Dressel, New York City, Susan Batten and husband, Stephen, Winston-Salem; Richard Friedman, Orlando, whom she loved like a son; nieces, Janice Beal, Judy Ballard, Sarah Ching and nephew, Mack Scott.
Memorial donations may be made to Bessemer United Methodist Church, 3015 East Bessemer Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
