William's death was reported in the "Cambridge Chronicle" (Cambridge, Massachusetts) on Saturday, April 11, 1896:10

William I. Henshaw, one of the oldest residents of this city, died Sunday at the home of his son-in-law, Rev. W. F. Greenman, in Fitchburg.  His health had been failing for over a year.

For many years Mr. Henshaw has been one of the fruit importing firm of A. S. & I. Brown & Co., State street, Boston, and was the original mover and developer of the banana importing trade, now grown to such proportions.  Later he was treasurer of the Boston Book company, from which he retired a year ago last month.  He was a member of the Library Hall association, was for 30 years member of the Cambridge Shakespeare club, and was treasurer of the City club, of Boston.

Mr. Henshaw had been an active Republican till the Blaine revolt and was one of the committee of 100 which formed the original mugwumps.  In that campaign and subsequently he was an ardent worker.  As the outgrowth of that revolt, he became a member of the New England Tariff Reform league.

Mr. Henshaw's wife died two years or more ago.  He leaves three children -- Mrs. W. F. Greenman and Dr. George B. Henshaw of this city, and Oliver B. Henshaw, now taking a graduate course at Harvard after two years in the chair of philosophy in the Leland Stanford university.  Two brothers also survive -- Henry W. Henshaw, the United States geological survey at the Sandwich Islands, and F. A. Henshaw of the Chicago real estate exchange.  The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the chapel of the First Parish church.
